I graduated from NYU Medical Center in 1966. After an internship at Roosevelt Hospital and general practice in the air force, I completed my residency at NYU in 1972.
Traveling from the “east side to the west side” over the years, I was active in the dermatology department at Presbyterian Hospital with Carl Nelson, Len Harber, and David Bickers. However, I spent more time at the St. Lukes-Roosevelt department with Alex Young and Vince DeLeo and maintained a midtown office until 2010.
In the 1970’s I became involved with the New York County Medical Society and learned a great deal about how the medical establishment functions (or doesn’t function) which led to positions as president of the county society and the NYS Derm.Society. I also was a member of the New York State Delegation to the AMA and worked with the Office of Professional Medical Conduct of the State Health Department where I participated in license revocation hearings.
In 1985, I joined the board of directors of Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company and subsequently became a member of multiple MLMIC boards. Currently, I am on the Board of Directors and I continue to do “downstate” claims reviews, which involves recommending whether to defend or settle malpractice suits. The company was renamed Medical Liability Insurance Company coincident with it’s purchase by Berkshire Hathaway two years ago.
Wendy and I live in midtown Manhattan and spend some time during the winter in the south.
