Julide Tok Celebi

Dr. Celebi is a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Dermatology, and Professor of the Departments of Pathology and Oncological Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is a full-time physician of the Mount Sinai Hospital and a member of the Tisch Cancer Institute. She sees patients at the East 85th street facility of the Department of Dermatology. Her research laboratory is located at the Tisch Cancer Institute.

Dr. Celebi completed her medical training at Cerrahpasa School of Medicine, Istanbul in 1990 followed by clinical research fellowship training in dermatology at Georgetown University, internship in internal medicine at University of Florida, and dermatology residency at Columbia University. She then joined the faculty of Columbia University’s Department of Dermatology as an Assistant Professor in 1998 and received translational and basic science training in cancer genetics. During fifteen years at Columbia University she served as a practicing clinician, teacher, mentor, and a researcher with an active laboratory in the Department of Dermatology and Herbert Irving Cancer Center. She joined Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2013. 


Dr. Celebi is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards; the Women’s Dermatologic Society Mentorship Program Award, the Dermatology Foundation’s Clinical Career Development Award, and the Irving Scholarship from Columbia University.  In addition, Dr. Celebi is the recipient of the Skin Cancer Foundation’s Frederick E. Mohs Memorial Award, NIH Mentored Clinical Scientist Award, and numerous foundation and NIH grants for her work on melanoma. Her laboratory studies focus on molecular genetics and epigenetics of melanoma, and involve preclinical and translational studies. In recent years, her work has centered on dissecting the epigenome of early stage melanomas as cells switch their intracellular make up from a proliferative state to become slow-cycling, invasive, and metastatic. 


Dr. Celebi is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Society for Investigative Dermatology, American Association for Cancer Research, Society for Melanoma Research, American Dermatological Association, and New York Dermatologic Society.  She is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and holds an active New York State License.  Her clinical practice is dedicated to caring for patients with melanoma and those at high-risk for melanoma, as well as those seeking minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. She is an active member of peer review committees of the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the Melanoma Research Foundation. She has over 50 peer-reviewed publications most of which are translational and basic research studies. She lectures on melanoma nationwide.
